Master Motors has unveiled the Changan Alsvin sedan which will be going up against the Toyota Yaris and the Honda City when it hits the market next month (January 2021).
This article gives a brief comparison between the Changan Alsvin and the Toyota Yaris since these two sedan cars are the true competitors as the Honda City is in all aspects an outdated vehicle with no major changes since it was first introduced over a decade ago (2009) in Pakistan.
The outdated look, features and specification automatically disqualify the Honda City for a proper comparison with the newly launched Alsvin sedan set to hit Pakistani automotive market in January 2021.
In this article, we will be comparing some of the main features and aspects of the Changan Alsvin and the Toyota Yaris so that our readers can get a better idea about the two sedan vehicles and make an educated decision if they are planning to make a purchase anytime soon.

Changan Alvsin vs Toyota Yaris
Please note that in order to make this fair, the following comparison is between the top-of-the-line variants of both vehicles.
Engine and Transmission
The higher-end variant of the Changan Alsvin aka the LUMIERE is powered by a 1480cc engine which is capable of producing 106hp and 145Nm of torque while being equipped with a 5-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission (DCT) system.
The Toyota Yaris on the other hand is equipped with a bigger 1496cc engine which produces 106hp and 140Nm of torque with a 7-speed automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) system.
Despite having the smaller engine size, the Alsvin is capable of producing the same power and even more torque than the Yaris. This is mainly because of the difference in transmission system of both vehicles.
While DCT is the latest technology, the CVT still remains the most fuel efficient with the use of belts and pulleys instead of gears. However, all that comes at a cost of performance as CVTs tend to lag when you accelerate quickly as compared to DCTs which offer quick upshifts as well as downshifts.
Dimensions
Let’s start off with the dimension of both vehicles to get a better idea of the size. The Changan Alsvin stands at 4390mm in length, 1725mm in width and 1468mm in height while the Toyota Yaris is slightly larger with a length of 4425mm, width of 1730mm and height of 1475mm. However, this is just a miniscule difference between both these vehicles.
Wheels
Apart from the similar dimensions, the Alsvin and Yaris both offer 15-inches Alloy wheels standard with both top-of-the-line variants.
Cruise Control
The Alsvin also features a smart cruise control system and the multi-functional steering wheel allows you to increase or decrease the speed without disengaging the cruise system. The Yaris completely lacks the cruise control functionality.
Headlamps and DRLs
Both the sedan cars offer Day-time Running Lights (DRLs). However, the Changan Alsvin takes the upper hand while offering halogen headlamps with electric adjustment compared to simple halogen headlamps in the Toyota Yaris.
Antenna
While Toyota Yaris offers a short pole antenna, the newly unveiled Changan Alvsin features the more popular shark fin antenna aka ‘Shark FUNTENA’ which is also found in the Honda City.
Sunroof
The Alsvin features an electric powered sunroof, which is something missing even in the top-of-the-line Yaris variant despite the hefty price tag.
Side Mirrors
The Alsvin also offers heated side mirrors which provide clear vision during rainy and foggy weathers compared to simple side mirrors found on the Yaris. This is a major point towards the Alsvin as this aids the driver during bad weather condition adding to the safety of the vehicle which is priceless.
External Parking Sensors
Something that puts the Changan Alsvin miles ahead of the Toyota Yaris are the external parking sensors on the vehicle, This is something that lacks in most sedan cars being offered in Pakistan. The company’s claims of bringing never before offered features are holding true so far.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System
Furthermore, the Alsvin is equipped with a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) prioviding pressure leakage and flat tyre data unlike the Yaris which is lacking this function. This feature adds to the convenience and safety as maintaining proper tyre pressure is very important.
Airbags and Safety
Both the sedan cars are equipped with two front airbags. However, Alsvin takes the edge as the vehicle is equipped with side crash beams / bars adding to the safety of the car.
Infotainment
The Toyota Yaris is equipped with a 6.8 inches capacitive touchscreen infotainment system while the Changan Alsvin features a slightly bigger 7-inches floating display with built-in vehicle controls such as DRL, TPMS, AC and door locks allowing you to configure multiple functions which is something lacking in the Yaris.
Price
The price of Toyota Yaris in Pakistan is Rs. 2,999,999 while the price of the Changan Alsvin LUMIERE is Rs. 2,549,000 while the base variant costs Rs. 2,199,000, making it the cheapest sedan car in Pakistan.
