Hyundai Motor is all set to launch its brand new SUV, the Hyundai Bayon during the first half of 2021. According to the company, this will be an important addition to the existing SUV line-up.
The vehicle is set to be introduced in the European markets joining the existing SUV line-up which includes the Kona, Tucson, NEXO and Santa Fe.
According to the press release by the company, the Hyundai Bayon is named after the French city of Bayonne and developed primarily as a “European Product” so its safe to assume that there are no plans for a global launch yet.
However, the SUV might make its way to other markets with a different name in the future which is common for most vehicles but for now, there is no official announcement regarding the matter. Hyundai Europe Vice President of Marketing & Product, Andreas-Christoph Hofmann explained why the company was introducing an all new SUV in the local market.
Andreas-Christoph Hofmann stated:
Hyundai is strongly established in the European SUV market already, in terms of our model range as well as our sales success. By launching a new, additional B-segment model as the entry point into our SUV line-up, we see a great opportunity to cover European customers’ demand even better and to increase our offering in a highly popular segment.
It is pertinent to mention that the company has named many vehicles after actual locations / places around the world. These include the Hyundai Tucson and Sante Fe which are both named after cities in the states of Arizona and New Mexico respectively.
While Hyundai Kona is named after the Kona District on the Big Island of Hawaii and NEXO’s name is derived from one of the largest towns on the island of Bornholm.
Currently not much information is available regarding the new Hyundai Bayon in terms of specifications or the overall design but we can expect the company to divulge more details in the coming weeks.
