Hyundai Elantra vs Corolla Altis Grande X – Brief Comparison

The much-awaited Hyundai Elantra has been launched in Pakistan and the sedan goes up against the Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X and the Honda Civic X. In this article, we have done a brief comparison of the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis X when it comes to features and specifications of both vehicles.

Hyundai Elantra vs Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X

It bears mentioning that to make this fair, the following comparison is being made between the top-of-the-line variant of Toyota Corolla Altis X (Grande 1.8L CVT) and the Hyundai Elantra GLS, which is the only variant launched in Pakistan.

Engine and Transmission

The Hyundai Elantra is powered by a 2000cc or 2.0L engine which produces 154 horsepower (hp) and 195 Newton metres (Nm) of torque coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission system. It is pertinent to mention that this sedan is the only vehicle in its category offering a 2000cc engine in Pakistan.

On the other hand, the Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X is powered by a 1798cc or 1.8L engine under the hood which is capable of producing 138hp and 173Nm of torque while being equipped with an automatic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) system.

The Hyundai Elantra offers a more powerful engine, however, the Toyota Corolla Altis X is equipped a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) which gives the vehicle an edge over the new entrant.

Dimensions

The Hyundai Elantra stands at 4620mm in length, 1800mm in width and 1460mm in height while the Toyota Corolla Altis X shares the same length but slightly smaller width at 1775mm but taller at 1475mm in height. However, this is just a miniscule difference between both these vehicles.

Wheels

Both vehicles are equipped with 16-inches Alloy wheels standard, however, the Elantra also offers a spare 16-inch Alloy wheel while the Corolla Altis Grande X comes with a steel spare (stepney).

Cruise Control

The Elantra offers auto cruise control system which offers you the ability to increase of decreasing the speed without disengaging the cruise system while they Corolla Altis Grande X is equipped with a normal cruise control system.

DRLs, Headlamps and Rear Lamps

Both the Hyundai Elantra and the Toyota Corolla Altis X are equipped with LED Headlamps, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) and LED Rear Lamps as well.

Sunroof

The two sedans come with a powered electric sunroof, making both vehicles equal in this department.

Smart Trunk

The Elantra comes with Smart Trunk function which offers you the ability to open the car’s trunk without using the remote if your hands are occupied while Corolla Altis X offers a remote trunk opening function.

External Parking Sensors

Both of these vehicles lack this convenience function. It would have been nice to see parking sensors in the newly launched Elantra which is priced higher than its competition albeit with a bigger engine. However, the local automotive market is very competitive and offering some extra features only makes it more attractive especially when other new entrants like the Changan Alsvin offers this feature despite being in a completely different category and price when it comes to sedans.

Airbags and Safety

The Elantra and the Corolla Altis Grande X both offer dual SRS airbags with other safety features like Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Assist.

Infotainment

The Hyundai Elantra features a 7-inch infotainment screen while the Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X offers a bigger 9-inch screen. This is probably the only difference between the two sedan cars in this category with both of them offering a 4.2-inch cluster display and 6 speakers as well.

Air Conditioning

The Altis Grande X comes with an automatic climate control air conditioning system while the new entrant, the Elantra offers a dual zone climate control system allowing for the passenger and driver to set their own temperatures and settings to remain confortable.

Hyundai Elantra vs Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X – PRICE

The Toyota Corolla Altis Grande X Price in Pakistan is Rs. 3,979,000 while the Hyundai Elantra Price in Pakistan is Rs. 4,049,000 at launch. It is pertinent to mention that this price is expected to rise as the company books more vehicles.
