Kia Lucky Motors has suspended the booking for Kia Sportage FWD and the Kia Picanto (Automatic Transmission or A/T) until further notice. However, the company did not reveal the reason behind this decision but the global semiconductor chip shortage is probably the reason as several other car manufacturers in Pakistan have suspended bookings for their vehicles for the same reason.
The delivery delay that is being experienced by customers was likely to worsen and Lucky Motors has decided to suspend booking for the Kia Sportage FWD and the Kia Picanto A/T. Furthermore, the company did not state as to when they might resume booking of both vehicles.
The global semiconductor chip shortage is affecting automotive company around the globe and not just in Pakistan. These automakers have lost billions of dollars as they have been unable to keep up production and sales resulting from the global chip shortage.
According to some experts, the global semiconductor chip shortage is likely to remain until 2023 and since these are an important component in modern vehicles as they control most of the electronic function, the car manufacturers will struggle to keep up production of their vehicles.
It is pertinent to mention that Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has also suspended the booking for Suzuki Cultus and Suzuki Alto due to the same reason while companies like Hyundai and Proton have previously done the same by halting bookings for their vehicles to meet their delivery targets.
Kia Lucky Motors has suspended the booking for Kia Sportage FWD and the Kia Picanto A/T but at the same time the company is rumored to be launching the Kia Stonic in Pakistan and it will be locally assembled as well. However, it raises the question regarding how the company plans to keep up production while going through the semiconductor chip shortage.
