Proton X70 SUV Coming to Pakistan in December

The Malaysian car manufacturer Proton Holdings is all prepared to launch their Proton X70 SUV in Pakistan in the coming weeks with the help of its local partner Al-Haj Group, who are known for successfully introducing FAW cars in the local market.

According to the latest reports, the Malaysian car manufacturer is all set to make its official debut in Pakistan with the launch of Proton X70 SUV by mid-December.

The automotive industry in Pakistan that was once dominated by the BIG3 (Honda, Toyota and Suzuki) has seen a lot of competition this year with many car manufacturers trying to secure their place in the automotive sector here while taking advantage of the Automotive Development Policy (ADP) 2016-21.

Proton Holdings is reportedly starting off by launching their Proton X70 SUV in Pakistan in the form of a Completely Built Unit (CBU) imported from Malaysia to take advantage of the ADP 2016-21 that allows a waiver of 50 percent duty on the import of the first 100 units for launch purposes.

Once the company successfully sells the first 100 units, the vehicle will be assembled locally in Pakistan as a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) unit.

Proton will reportedly have one dealership each in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad at launch and later add more to their network based on the initial demand once they start booking these vehicles.

The company has already started advertising their arrival in Pakistan through radio and mentioned some of the features while emphasizing on the “voice command function”.

About Proton X70 SUV

The Proton X70 SUV was first introduced in Malaysia last year and is basically a re-branded ‘Geely Boyue’ with some exterior and interior changes and a right hand drive.

According to reports, the company will be introducing three variants of the vehicle in Pakistan which include the Executive 2WD, Premium 2WD and Premium AWD.

Engine

The vehicle will be equipped 3 cylinder 1.5L Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection (TGDi) co-developed by Geely and Volvo and capable of producing an impressive 174hp and 255Nm of torque. Furthermore, the Proton X70 SUV will have a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission with option for manual mode.
