Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) has suspended the booking for Suzuki Alto 660cc. The company has directed all 3S Dealerships to stop booking Suzuki Alto until further notice. The development comes shortly after the company suspended bookings for Suzuki Cultus.
According to several dealerships of Pak Suzuki, the booking for Suzuki Alto 660cc has been temporarily suspended until further notice due to the global semiconductor ship shortage which has become a serious problem for the automotive industry as demand has increased more than supply during the coronavirus pandemic.
The global semiconductor chip shortage is affecting automotive company around the globe and not just in Pakistan. These automakers have lost billions of dollars as they have been unable to keep up production and sales resulting from the global chip shortage.
Furthermore, this is not the first time a local company has suspended booking for its vehicle as Hyundai has previously done the same by halting booking for Tucson while Proton suspended bookings for Saga because of the chip shortage and coronavirus lockdown in Malaysia.
According to some experts, the global chip shortage might last until 2023 and right now there is no official confirmation by Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) as to how long the booking for Suzuki Alto 660cc remains suspended.
It bears mentioning that Pak Suzuki has also announced the discontinuation of the second generation Suzuki Swift in Pakistan. The news is nothing new as the company issued a notification in this regard last year. However, the company has not disclosed any information as to the replacement of the vehicle but several rumors suggest that the company is planning on introducing the newer fourth generation model.
