The Judicial Commission (JC), formed to inquire into the allegations of rigging in the last general elections, has concluded that 2013 General Elections were in large part organized and conducted fairly and in accordance with the law.
The 237-page Report, presented by the Commission to the Government yesterday, has been made public and is available on the website of the Ministry of Law and Justice of Government of Pakistan (www.molaw.gov.pk).
The Commission, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, has held that the plan or design to manipulate or influence the election has not been disclosed with any degree of specification by any of the parties to the proceedings. It is also not discernible from the material placed before the Commission.
The Commission also concluded that despite some lapses by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it cannot be said on the evidence before the Commission that on an overall basis the elections were not a true and fair reflection of the mandate given by the electorate.
Chief Justice of Pakistan was Chairman of the Judicial Commission while Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan of the Supreme Court were its members. – AP
