The Murree incident which took so many precious lives has shaken the entire nation, More such incidents can be avoided through salt and sand abundantly available in Pakistan. The Murree incident lead the Global Fitness Group to share simple tips which if implemented ahead of time can reduce the likely hood of recurrence of similar casualties.
There is balance in every aspect of every life form, in every season, and within our brain, body, and breath; it is exactly this balance our ‘Brain-Body Breath Balance Program’ has brought to its community in the Sector F-15/1, Islamabad.
We need only to be aware of our responsibilities, of serving our community intelligently, caringly, kindly, and attentively by shedding laziness and adopting movement which serves to better our innate qualities and nature’s geographic gifts to us as Pakistanis.
‘Shifting the blame’ is an ancient day old trait, ‘hindsight’, with its very distinct two sides: either we can use it as a learning tool or as is more often the case, we delight in the afterthought of what should have been done; on top of that we, Pakistani’s are riddled with adopting the ways of what appear to be materially and economically developed nation’s systems; however, setting aside cynicism, how and what are we as responsible fellow beings of our society going to do, what actions are we going to take to prevent such sad consequences of unnatural deaths – that took place in our beautiful Murree.
It will be a waste of valuable energy to say what steps should have been taken to prevent such tragic loss of life! We can take preventative steps ahead of time henceforth.
Beat the snow with Salt and Sand
We have salt in abundance i.e. Potohar region of Punjab province of Pakistan. The Khewra Salt Mines, the range extends along the south of the Potohar Plateau and the north of the Jhelum city of Pind Dadan Khan. We have six large mines of salt and countless smaller ones in Pakistan. We have numerous beaches, namely in Karachi, Gwadar, Baluchistan…
The rock salt applied to icy roads in the developed nations is the same substance that comes out of the salt shakers on our kitchen table. The only difference is the size. Rock salt is the material that has crystallized in larger pieces, whereas table salt has been ground up and pulverized to a more or less uniform size distribution.
Salt is used to melt ice, however, sand improves traction. Sand crystals increase friction and help prevent vehicle tires from slipping on slick roads, making travel easier for drivers. Sand can also help prevent new ice from forming on roads. Imagine each grain of sand as a tiny little ball. In each scoop of sand, there are millions of balls constantly in motion. Each time a car drives over them or the wind blows, the grains move around.
The movement of the sand grains makes it difficult for water molecules to stick together and form ice. Although the sand may not entirely prevent ice from forming, its constant motion makes it difficult for ice to build up as quickly as it can on untreated roads.
Being home to five deserts including the Cholistan desert, Thal desert, Indus Valley desert, Thar Desert, and the Kharan desert, we are not short of sand either. The long and the short is that we have plenty of sand and salt within Pakistan to supply ahead of time, the melting and friction required to stop snow from turning to ice and to make roads and pathways safe for drivers and passengers across the regions where we have the blessing of snowfall.
