ISLAMABAD: A meeting of all education ministers is scheduled to take place on 5th November to decide whether to discuss the possibility of closing schools and winter vacations amid the rising number of coronavirus cases across Pakistan.
The federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood will be presiding over the meeting while provincial ministers including representative from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) will be in attendance.
It has been a cause of concern as coronavirus cases in the country have been on the rise with many students testing positive for the deadly disease. However, the education ministers will review the situation at educational institutions and decide on appropriate measures.
Winter Vacations in Pakistan
The education ministers will also decide on other matters including the possibility of winter vacations and the commencement of the next academic session.
No Decision Taken Yat
However, no decision has been taken yet regarding closing of schools in Pakistan amid the rising number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases but there has been fake news circulating regarding the matter.
The matter was clarified by federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood who took to Twitter stating:
Rumors again afloat regarding school closures. It is again clarified that educational institutions are NOT being closed,
He further mentioned that the situation was being monitored closely as health of students and teachers was top most priority.
Furthermore, Higher Education Commission (HEC) has also shut down rumors regarding closure of universities and informed that notifications circulating on the matter is fake news.
