ISLAMABAD: There is a fake news circulating that High Education Commission (HEC) has ordered the closure of universities due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.
Furthermore, the fake notification that has been making rounds on social media stated that HEC ordered certain universities to limit the number of students attending classes to 30 percent.
However, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has confirmed through its official Twitter that the news regarding closure of universities is fake along with the accompanying notification.
According to the Tweet, each institution will decide whether to operate or close the university based on their specific situation while the Vice Chancellors are fully empowered to decide issues related to attendance to protect the health of students.
Moreover, the decision to close universities falls to the health authorities and not HEC.
In related news, Punjab education minister Murad Raas also mentioned that there are no plans to close schools in the province even though coronavirus cases have been on the rise.
According to the education, the current situation is still under control and there is no cause for alarm at the moment.
