The National Curriculum Council of Pakistan (NCCP) has introduced 62 new subjects for classes nine through twelve, a significant update to the curriculum after 28 years. This marks a major update in the curriculum after a span of 28 years. As per the director of NCCP, a total of 38 subjects have been revamped for the overall curriculum in these classes.
Among the additions are Trade Fair Technical Education and Technical Subjects, which have been included in the National Council’s curriculum as optional subjects. Specifically in technical education, there are plans to introduce 10 new technical subjects, upgrade 14 existing ones, and add 38 optional subjects for these classes.
In the initial phase, these changes will roll out in Sindh, with new educational content expected for optional subjects from ninth to eleventh classes in the following year. The technical education subjects will now encompass fields such as Medical Technology, Fashion Designing, Dress Making, Graphic Designing, Media Production, Hospitality Management, Tourism Management, and Data Coding.
Furthermore, the upgraded technical subjects will cover diverse areas including Advertising, Telecommunication Technology, Solar Construction, Computer Application, Computer Hardware, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, and Event Management. Additionally, subjects like Food Processing, Conservation, Motor Winding, Automation and Robotics Technology, Welding, and Woodwork are set to be incorporated.
Moreover, the NCCP director revealed plans to introduce global languages as subjects in the new curriculum, including Chinese, French, Persian, and Arabic. This move is aimed at providing students with a broader range of language skills, aligning with the increasingly interconnected world.
Overall, these curriculum updates reflect a commitment to modernizing the education system in Pakistan and providing students with a diverse array of subjects to choose from, catering to various interests and career paths.
