The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) did not make a decision regarding closure of schools amid the surging COVID-19 cases in the country. The forum announced that it will meet tomorrow to make a final decision on schools should be closed after looking at the data of positivity rates of various institutions.
The NCOC had called a meeting of the Provincial Health and Education Ministers on Monday in order to make a decision on the coronavirus restrictions, including the closure of schools, amid the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country. “Decision about education institutions will be taken on data of positive cases of various institutions for which massive testing in education institutions is being carried out,” said the NCOC in a statement after the meeting.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar and the National Coordinator Maj General Muhammad Zafar Iqbal chaired the NCOC meeting, while the Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan attended the meeting virtually.
Meanwhile. the Provincial Education Ministers also joined the meeting virtually and told the meeting about the steps being taken in the educational institutions for the implementation of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) and COVID-19 SOPs in wake of the surge in the coronavirus cases.
Furthermore, the meeting has also discussed a new set of NPIs in view of the current situation and decided that the NPIs will be enforced by the provinces in the next 48 hours after consultative process with all stakeholders.
