The Government of Sindh has announced a holiday with all public and private schools and colleges to remain closed on Wednesday and Thursday (August 24-25) due to heavy monsoon rain predicted across the province by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
“All the Government and Private Educational Institutions under the administrative control of the College Education Department, Government of Sindh shall remain closed on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August, 2022 due to rain emergency.” said the notification.
The development comes after the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted more rain across the country as a low-pressure area (LPA) located over India’s east Rajasthan (India) is expected to make its way northwest and approach Sindh by tonight.
The Met office has warned that the strong weather system was penetrating monsoon currents in the southern and upper parts of Pakistan. The notification added that rain-wind/thundershowers with scattered heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Sindh, South Punjab, South and Northeastern Balochistan from Tuesday to Friday with occasional gaps.
Meanwhile, there are chances of rain-wind/thundershowers with isolated heavy falls in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan from tonight to Friday with occasional gaps.
Regarding the impact of the new weather system, the PMD said that it may cause urban flooding across the province of Sindh. Therefore, the Government of Sindh has announced a holiday with all schools and colleges to remain closed across the province on Wednesday and Thursday (August 24-25).
It is pertinent to mention that Balochistan has also taken similar measures and closed all schools and colleges for the remainder of the week after many areas in the province was declared calamity-hit after severe torrential rains in the region.
