ISLAMABAD: Private schools in Islamabad will remain closed tomorrow, October 4, as a precautionary measure ahead of a planned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The local administration has imposed Section 144 in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Attock, prohibiting public gatherings from October 4 to 6.
The decision comes amid widespread road closures and heightened security measures, including the suspension of the Metro Bus service and the complete closure of Motorways M1 and M2. Access to key routes from Taxila, Chakrial, Rawat, and the Airport will also be blocked, severely restricting movement in and out of Rawalpindi.
Law enforcement agencies have deployed over 4,000 police officers in Rawalpindi, equipped with tear gas and rubber bullets, with additional anti-riot squads on standby. Authorities are also considering temporarily shutting down mobile networks.
The Private Schools Association announced the closure, with General Secretary Wahid Khan citing the safety of children as the top priority. He explained that communication with the Deputy Commissioner had been ongoing, but the decision to close schools was made to avoid further hardships for students, who already faced significant delays due to roadblocks earlier in the day.
Citizens have been advised to limit travel and stay informed of road conditions as the situation unfolds.
