In a significant move towards regulating private tutoring in the UAE, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) unveiled a new initiative on Monday, December 18. UAE’s ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ aims to bring structure to the provision of private lessons outside formal educational institutions and address haphazard practices within the sector.
Eligibility Criteria
The permit is open to a diverse range of individuals, including registered teachers in government or private schools, employees in the government and private sectors, unemployed individuals, school students aged 15 to 18, and university students.
Documentary Requirements
Applicants must adhere to specific documentation based on their category, encompassing academic certificates, good conduct certificates, No Objection Certificates (NOC), medical fitness certificates, and valid identification documents.
Application Process
The application process is streamlined through the official MOHRE webpage. Applicants can select their relevant category, upload the necessary documents, and submit the application. The ‘Code of Conduct’ document, available for download on the portal, must be signed and submitted digitally.
Processing and Support
MOHRE assures a prompt processing time of five working days. In case of any challenges during the application process, individuals can seek assistance through the MOHRE support website or contact the helpline at 600 590000.
Application Resubmission
In the event of an application being declined, MOHRE allows resubmission after a waiting period of six months.
Permit Duration and Renewal
Successfully approved permits are valid for a period of two years, with a straightforward renewal process.
Flexibility for Tutors
The permit also extends the option for residents to provide private tutoring services from their home country, subject to the validity of their UAE residence visa and compliance with relevant agreements.
Online Teaching and Student Cap
Acknowledging the evolving landscape of education, the permit accommodates both online and in-person teaching activities. Notably, there is no stipulated cap on the number of students a tutor may engage with.
This initiative marks a pivotal moment in the education sector, offering a legal framework for private tutors to contribute to the academic development of students. Aspiring tutors are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity by applying for the ‘Private Teacher Work Permit’ and help improve the educational landscape of the UAE.
