Pakistani actress, model, and TV host Zainab Jamil was rushed to the hospital after an assassination attempt by unidentified attackers in Lahore’s upscale Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area.
The attack happened near J Block Park during the daytime as Jamil was leaving her beauty salon in Phase 5 of DHA and heading to her car. CCTV footage of the incident, which surfaced online, shows two masked men opening fire at her vehicle.
Jamil, a former host of the show Khabarnaak, suspects her husband is behind the attack. She has appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister to take action against the attackers, who are still at large.
Police confirmed that Jamil had been receiving threats and believed the incident was planned by her husband. A case has been registered, and the search for the culprits is ongoing.
In a video message posted on Instagram from her hospital bed, Jamil said, “The attack was carried out by my husband, who has been threatening me for the last two months. I have all the evidence with me, but I’m not satisfied with the police investigation and still face threats to my life.”
Jamil, known for her roles in Khuda Aur Muhabbat and Aap Ki Kaneez, sustained severe injuries in the attack. She said, “I received six bullets and I’m not in good condition. Media persons are not being allowed here at the hospital as they are trying to suppress my voice.”
The former actress, who left the entertainment industry in 2020 for religious reasons, expressed her dissatisfaction with the police probe and appealed to the Inspector General of Punjab to ensure a transparent investigation.
Following the attack, police recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from the crime scene and are tracing the culprits through Safe City cameras.
Jamil’s career included roles in several popular dramas such as Sada Sukhi Raho, Sasural Meri Behen Ka, and Mannchali. She stepped away from showbiz in December 2020 to focus on her faith and family.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are under pressure to bring the attackers to justice and ensure Jamil’s safety.
