Lady Gaga is set to headline the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games this Friday, confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. While rumors swirled about other potential performers such as Celine Dion, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, and Aya Nakamura, the complete lineup remains a mystery.
NBC News reported an increase in speculation this week when both Gaga and Dion were spotted traveling to Paris ahead of the international multisport event. On Monday, videos surfaced on social media showing Lady Gaga greeting fans outside her car in the French capital.
In recent years, Lady Gaga has maintained a busy schedule with multiple high-profile projects. She has been filming the eagerly awaited Joker sequel, Folie à Deux, with Joaquin Phoenix, while also performing her Las Vegas residency show, Enigma + Jazz & Piano. Additionally, her global concert tour, The Chromatica Ball, in 2022 supported her sixth studio album, Chromatica.
Her performance at the Olympic opening ceremony will mark her return to televised stages since her emotional rendition of “Hold My Hand” at the 2023 Oscars.
In related news, Celine Dion is reportedly set to perform a tribute to Édith Piaf with “L’Hymne à l’amour.” This will be Dion’s first performance since revealing her Stiff Person Syndrome diagnosis and canceling her tour.
The highly anticipated ceremony will be broadcast on NBC and available for streaming on Peacock and NBC Olympics platforms this Friday, featuring these two musical icons.
