Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen will replace Johnny Depp, taking over the role of evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald in the fantasy film Fantastic Beasts 3 according to Warner Bros Pictures.
Johnny Depp was forced to step down from the role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts movie franchise after losing his libel trial against The Sun earlier this month over an article which labelling him a “wife beater”.

According to Depp, Warner Bros Pictures asked him to resign from the franchise after his legal defeat while he was also denied permission to appeal against the ruling, which found the assault claims by his ex-wife Amber Heard to be “substantially true”.
However, the actor has been given until 7 December, 2020 to directly approach the Court of Appeal in this regard but the entire legal battle forced the film to be postponed.
Fantastic Beasts 3 was first delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and then because of the on-going Depp court case is now set to release in July 2022 according to producers.
The filming for Fantastic Beasts 3 is now underway in the UK with Mads Mikkelsen replacing Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. Furthermore, Eddie Redmayne will reprise his role as Newt Scamander and Jude Law will be portraying the character of young Albus Dumbledore.
