Titled after the antagonist character from the 1975’s Oscar-winning movie, Netflix Ratched is scheduled to premiere on September 18th and tells the origin story of notorious controlling psychiatric nurse Mildred.
Netflix released the trailer for Ratched, its upcoming nerve-racking presentation about a month ago that screamed gruesome horror and has managed to garner more than 35 Million views, as the audience counts days for the electrifying and thrilling around the corner crime saga.
Netflix Ratched timeline
Brought to life by the polished producers Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, Netflix Ratched is an approaching suspenseful crime drama series, adapted from the critically acclaimed old-times ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.’
The screenplay revolves around the asylum nurse Mildred Ratched, however the plot and her character has been twisted and modified. The series depicts the younger version of the baddie character as it tells the origin story, unveiling the reason for her cruelty and brutality.
About Mildred Ratched character
Brought to life by Kin Kesey, Mildred Ratched is an asylum nurse. In 1947, Ratched arrives in Northern California, where she seeks employment at a renowned psychiatric hospital that has initiated unsettling and modernized experiments on its patients. At first, Mildred portrays herself to be the picture perfect dedicated nurse, however as time passes by, Mildred’s stylish and innocent exterior reveals the growing darkness, that had long been flaming within.
How the character in series differs from film
As the impeccable and intriguing final trailer of Ratched Netflix suggests, the forthcoming prequel carries loads of bombshells for the daring viewers, with tons of variations circulating around the ill-famed nurse. The modernized version of Mildred displays simmering rage and passion, coupled with misplaced sense of righteousness that earns the character more power and admiration.
Talking about the nurse Ratched’s character from One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, it portrayed clichéd and banal wickedness. She wasn’t a calculating psychopath who enjoyed her small amount of power. Nevertheless, Ratched Netflix re-characterizes the tin-pot dictator to be a murderous super villain with much calculated and spine chilling strategies, that fetches more fascination and admiration towards the mastermind Mildred.

Cast of Netflix Ratched
The beautiful and celebrated Sarah Paulson, recently starring in American horror story and Glass will portray the title role of the crazy-headed nurse Mildred Ratched in Netflix Ratched, releasing next week.
Talking about her upcoming project, Paulson stated:
I think there’s no fun nor is there much value in retreading territory that’s been executed so brilliantly by Louise Fletcher [the original Nurse Ratched] and there was nothing to improve upon and there was no story to dive deeper into in terms of ways to crack that performance and go deeper there, that wasn’t interesting to me to.
I think watching someone become something is inherently interesting and I think Mildred is becoming herself over the course of this series and this first installment is just the beginning of that story…
I think it was a very rich opportunity filled with, I mean the playing field was completely open to us – there was nothing we couldn’t do or explore because it was all invented. There was no story about her so it could be up to us and that was a pretty thrilling, enticing prospect.
Furthermore, the 62 years old Sharon Stone plays the twice-widowed but excessively rich Lenore Osgood, who is always seen with her sidekick, a Capuchin monkey hovering on her shoulder.
For Stone, working with this star-studded cast of women was a highlight.
She explained:
I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to work with women because for the majority of my film career, I was put against big male actors, big male movie stars. It’s like a dream come true for me, to get to work with some of my favorite actors of all time.
The character of Gwendolyn Briggs, the press secretary for the governor of California will be represented by Sex And The City star Nixon.
Additionally, Okendo plays Charlotte Well, an asylum patient with multiple personalities.
