ROBOCOP 2014
The second official trailer has been released for the upcoming 2014 reboot of “RoboCop.” It is called the “Robo-Phobic” trailer which talks about American paranoia directed towards machines. Michael Keaton’s character, playing the head of OmniCorp, gives the suggestion of merging man and machine together. This reboot of RoboCop hits theaters on February 12, 2014. Joel Kinnaman takes on the role of Detroit PD officer Alex Murphy who plays the titular hero RoboCop. This movie features a more humanistic RoboCop than the Peter Weller incarnation in the past.
This trailer shows Kinnamen, Keaton, Gary Oldman (“Batman Begins”), Samuel L. Jackson (2013 US remake of “Oldboy”), Jay Baruchel (“This Is The End”), Jackie Earle Haley (“Human Target”), Marianne Jean-Baptiste, and Michael Kenneth Williams (“Boardwalk Empire”).
In the start of the trailer, OmniCorp talks about how its robots are giving Americans the advantage in their overseas wars. The year is 2029; the beginning of the trailer gives the implication that the war overseas is seemingly still taking place with the additional implication that robots are policing the streets in place of human troops. Then, it questions why these robots are not protecting the streets of American cities.
Alex Murphy, in this reboot, isn’t shot to death on duty. Instead, he survives a car explosion in which some of his limbs are gone. To save his life, Murphy becomes RoboCop. However, this RoboCop is still plenty human.
