Veteran actor Sir Ian McKellen has become the latest celebrity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the first round of vaccinations in the UK.
The 81-year-old star of the X-Men said he felt “euphoric” to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the Queen Mary’s Hospital in London. “It’s a very special day, I feel euphoric.” said Sir Ian McKellen after getting the shot.
The veteran star also praised the hospital staff and wanted to “give them a big hug” after getting his injection.
“Anyone who has lived as long as I have, is alive because they have had previous vaccinations,” said The Lord Of The Rings star.
“I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone,” he continued, saying he felt “very lucky”.
Other stars who joined The Lord Of the Rings star in the first phase of vaccination include Prue Leith, Lionel Blair and Michael Whitehall.
The UK has started vaccinating healthcare workers, the elderly and people living in care homes during the first batch of vaccinations in the country.
