Paramount pictures on Sunday, revealed the official action-packed trailer for the anticipated Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origin, starring the Crazy Rich Asian’s star Henry Golding as the lead character Snake Eyes. The forthcoming saga is the reboot of the G.I. Joe universe, and comes eight years after the last franchise movie, G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
About Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Universe
Directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, the film is being executive produced by Jeff G. Waxman and produced by Bonaventura, Brian Goldner, Stephen Davis, David Ellison, Josh Feldman, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger.
As the trailer suggests, ‘Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe origin’ narrates the undiscovered life story, training and early battles of the deadly ninja Snake Eyes, followed with unveiling how he joined the G.I. Joe team.
The official synopsis for ‘Snake Eyes reboot’ states,
“A lone fighter is welcomed into and trained by an ancient Japanese ninja clan called the Arashikage, but finds his loyalties being tested when secrets from his past are revealed, as he eventually goes on the path to become the hero known as ‘Snake Eyes.’”
Moreover, this is not the first movie featuring the G.I. Joe. Previously, G.I. Joe universe had two movies: 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation. However, neither of them managed to become a smash hit at the box office, and failed to entertain the audience. So, Paramount decided to retool the series and start over from scratch.
Hence, the approaching Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe origin will make a start from the brandish beginning, rather than picking up the former storylines.

Other than that, the Last Christmas star Henry Golding has mastered the way of the ninja and is all geared to embrace the titular warrior in the approaching Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origin. Golding plays the central Snake Eyes, a ninja commando who wields a deadly katana blade, wears all-black, hides his face behind a mask and doesn’t speak.
Furthermore, talking about his venture, Henry Golding stated,
“I wanted to see something different, and I wanted it to look different, to feel different. To be able to launch a franchise like that, it was just too good to be true — and especially with a character like Snake Eyes about whom a lot of people don’t know too much. They know him as this insane operator that completes missions and is an absolute weapon, but who’s the guy behind the mask and what’s his story?”
Besides Henry Golding, other cast of Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe origin includes,
- Andrew Koji as Tommy / Storm Shadow
- Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness
- Samara Weaving as Scarlett
- Haruka Abe as Akiko
- Takehiro Hira as Kenta
- Iko Uwais as Hard Master
- Peter Mensah as Blind Master
The movie is slated for a theatrical release on July 23, 2021.
