The creators of the popular horror drama series ‘Stranger Things’ are gearing up to commence production for the much-anticipated final season of the show.
According to reports from the US-based media outlet Variety, the production for the fifth and ultimate season of the Netflix blockbuster is scheduled to kick off in early January, though the exact start date remains subject to potential changes. The commencement of filming was delayed for more than seven months due to the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
The entire ensemble cast of the series is slated to make a return for the concluding season, featuring familiar faces such as Noah Schnapp, Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gates Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson.
Adding to the excitement, ‘Terminator’ star Linda Hamilton is set to join the cast for Season 5, and director Dan Trachtenberg, known for ‘Prey’ and ’10 Cloverfield Lane,’ will be directing at least one episode. This is in addition to the regular directors, the Duffer brothers, and Shawn Levy, who is also serving as an executive producer, as per reports from Variety.
Back in September, Levy teased that Season 5 of ‘Stranger Things’ would deliver “major, major cinematic storytelling” and be “as big as any of the biggest movies that we see.”
While it’s highly unlikely that Season 5 will premiere before 2025, fans can look forward to ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow,’ a stage play set in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1959. The play, debuting at the Phoenix Theater in London’s West End on December 14, explores the origins of several key characters from the show. The script is penned by ‘Stranger Things’ writer and co-executive producer Kate Trefry, based on an original story by the Duffer brothers, Jack Thorne, and Trefry, as reported by Variety.
