The highly esteemed Pakistani web series Churails that was due for its second season next year, has been taken down for Pakistani audience, owing to its controversial monologue that went viral on social media. Hence, the journey of highly idolized, daredevil girl gang that harvested massive accolades globally breaks off in Pakistan.
The staggering announcement was brought to public eye by Asim Abbas, who serves as the show-runner of the blockbuster series. Taking it to his social handles, the ‘Cake’ director seemed extremely disheartened, as he emphasized ‘Ban on Churails’ to be loss of every other individual who commended the optimism that this web series delineated.
Asim captioned, “How strange for #Churails to be lauded internationally, and now not be viewable in its country of origin. In the very country where hundreds of artists came together to create something that could initiate dialogue and open doors for new narratives. Artistic freedom squashed because it is wrongly perceived by some as a moral threat. Predictable, and yet, still disappointing. For this is not just my loss. This is a loss for women and marginalised communities that this show meant to re-represent. This is a loss for all actors, writers, directors and technicians across Pakistan, who were hoping for digital/OTT to be their saviour. And it’s a home-run for all the misogynists who have once again proven that they are the only voice that matters.”
Here to mention, the international giants, including India will premiere the second season of megahit presentation as per schedule.
About Pakistani web series Churails
Churails is Pakistan’s first ever crime thriller series, brought to life by Indian broadcaster Zee5 exclusive and Zindagi Original. Its quirky timeline and distinctive plots, revolving around female empowerment earned the series stupendous kudos and acclamations. Hence, its first season, comprised of 10 episodes that aired earlier this year was an enormous hit, both nationally and internationally.
Plot: Churails is a tale of feminism, women vengeance and girl power, centering on four courageous women, who have been mistreated by men authority in their past. Hence, the foursome unites on a mutual ground that is to retaliate.
In a façade of veiled women, the female troop combats against men dominance, in order to provide justice to the wrecked and ill-treated women of this sick society.
Reason of imposing ban on Churails
However, as Pakistani viewers are way too quick to judge the book by its cover, the remarkable series was also criticized by a bundle of people. And in present, the series has landed in hot water yet again that led to its permanent ban in the country.
Few days back, a video clip from Churails went viral on social media, with the pessimistic twitter users calling for ban on the series.
The short clip that took the internet by storm was of Hina Khuwaja, revealing how she got a job at a particular salon. Hina says, “I used to give hand jobs twice a day to my boss who was 20 years older than me. After this, he gave me a job and after giving several more jobs, he gave me a promotion. Now I am the wife to the same person.”
The series was immediately poured scorn on by the sick minded audience, over promoting such loutish content. As the debate over monologue upsurge to popularity, Zee5 original decided to terminate the series for Pakistani audience. Hence, Churails is now banned for viewership in Pakistan.
