CHILAS: Five police officers were martyred during a raid in Chilas on Tuesday after heavy exchange of fire between suspects and policemen who belonged to the Gilgit Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
According to Geo News, two others were killed after they got caught in the cross fire between CTD officials and the suspects during the raid in Diamer’s Chilas district.

Police said that five of their own men were killed as a result of open fire from the suspects while another five policemen were wounded in the incident.
Investigation into the incident has been launched and the Caretaker GB Chief Minister Mir Afzal Khan as directed the IG Gilgit Baltistan to submit detailed report of the incident.
After two other people were killed in the crossfire, protesters blocked the Karakoram Highway claiming that the police carried the raid in Chilas over false information and innocent people lost their lives.
However, the protesters agreed to open the road for traffic after successful negotiations took place between authorities who promised an inquiry into the incident.
