Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) alert for Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
Daytime temperatures in the two regions are expected to be 4-6 degrees Celsius higher than normal from May 21 to 27, 2024. This, along with gusty winds and thunderstorms, could increase the chances of a GLOF event or flash floods in the vulnerable snow-covered and glaciated areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department is advising district administrations, relevant local organizations, and local communities to remain vigilant and observe precautionary measures.
