A social media post has been circulating regarding the Government discontinuing the Rs. 5,000 banknote, however, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) has refuted the rumors and confirmed it as fake news.
In the fake notification that has been circulating on social media, it was stated that the Federal Government was discontinuing the Rs. 5,000 banknote. “With effect from September 30, the use, possession, and circulation of Rs. 5,000 currency notes will be banned throughout the country.” the fake notification stated.
However, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) stated that it is a fake news being circulated on social media, confirming that the Government had no plans to discontinue the Rs. 5,000 banknote.
“Disseminating #FakeNews is not only unethical and illegal but it is also disservice to the nation. It is the responsibility of everyone to reject irresponsible behavior. Reject #FakeNews” the MoIB stated.
