The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the exchange of old design currency notes of the Rs. 10, 50, 100 and 1000 denominations until 31 December 2021.
The announcement was made by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) via Twitter. “Last date to exchange old design banknotes has been extended till 31 Dec 22.” said the banking regulator, adding that old design bank notes have ceased to be legal tender for transactions.

It is pertinent to mention that previous deadline for the exchange of old design currency notes was 31 December 2021.
Furthermore, the notification issued by the Federal Government also mentioned that upon expiry of the deadline, the old currency notes will stand cancelled, and will not be exchangeable.
“This is the final extension in the date of exchange of these banknotes granted by the Federal Government and public is advised to avail this opportunity and exchange their old design banknotes through SBP BSC Offices till December 31, 2022,” the statement read.
