The Government of Pakistan’s Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety has announced the Nisab of Zakat for the Zakat Year 1445-46 AH, effective for the upcoming Ramadan. According to the notification issued today, the Nisab of Zakat has been set at Rs. 179,689 (Rupees One Hundred Seventy-Nine Thousand Six Hundred Eighty-Nine only).
This threshold applies to savings in bank accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and similar banking assets (Asset Code No. 101) as outlined in the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance, 1980. No Zakat deduction at source will be made if the credit balance in these accounts is below Rs. 179,689 on the first day of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, which is expected to fall on either March 1st or 2nd, 2025, subject to the sighting of the moon.

Financial institutions and Zakat Collection & Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) have been directed to deduct Zakat accordingly from eligible accounts and deposit it into the Central Zakat Account maintained with the State Bank of Pakistan. ZCCAs are also required to submit a copy of the return (Form CZ-08 A&B) to the Ministry immediately after the deduction.
