Pakistan vs India Match , Army men ‘stab’ youth in Kashmir

KASHMIR – A youth was stabbed during a brawl by skiing instructors, who work for the army, after Pakistan narrowly beat arch rivals Indian in the ongoing Asian Cup being played in Bangladesh.

Police Monday arrested five persons, including three troopers, after Muhammad Younis Reshi was stabbed inside a hotel in world-famous health resort, Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Varmul district.

The incident took place when the troopers were watching the crunch game in Hotel Shahra.

Official sources said last evening scuffle broke out between army troopers and few civilians at Jawahar Lal Nehru Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports. “During the scuffle, one of the army troopers hit a youth with a sharp knife and injuring him seriously,” sources added.

Sources said as locals celebrated Pakistan’s victory, the troopers called Reshi in their room and beat him to pulp and stabbed him.  Reshi, a resident of Bhaderwah in Jammu division, has been working as an instructor in the institute.

He was immediately rushed to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura in the summer capital. Police have registered an FIR 2/2014 under section 242 and 323 at Gulmarg police station.

Official sources identified the arrested three army men as Havaldar Jitender Singh, N K Sonam and N K Hajari Lal. The arrested civilians were identified as  Lakshman of Udhampur and Kuldip Singh of Beerwah in Central Kashmir’s Budgam.

Shahid Afridi smashed two consecutive sixes off Ravichandran Ashwin in the final over as Pakistan defeated India by one wicket in Dhaka on Sunday, virtually knocking the arch-rivals out of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan, chasing India’s 245-8, needed nine runs off the last four balls after losing their way from a seemingly winning position to slump from 200-4 to 236-9 at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium.

But the seasoned Afridi sealed his side’s win with two mighty hits off the next two deliveries to keep Pakistan afloat in the five-nation tournament with their second win in three matches.
