In another tragic incident, an 18-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped on M-4 Motorway in Gojra on Thursday. The police have claimed to have arrested one of the three suspects involved in the heinous crime. The woman was reportedly lured from Toba Tek Singh on the pretest of offering her a job, however, the men gang-raped her in a car while on their way to Faisalabad.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the victim’s aunt told police that her niece had received a message on her mobile phone, asking her to reach a location in Gojra for a job interview at a boutique. The complainant added that upon reaching the location, the suspects asked her to send the victim with them to Faisalabad for the interview.
The aunt let her 18-year-old niece travel with the men, who gang-raped her on the M-4 motorway (Gojra to Faisalabad) while holding her at gunpoint. The suspects fled after dropping the teenager at a deserted place near the Faisalabad Interchange. However, a spokesperson of the Punjab Police has stated that a main suspect of the Gojra Motorway gang-rape has been arrested and he is being interrogated, while search is underway to find the other suspects.
According to the police, the medical examination of the 18-year-old, which has confirmed that sexual assault, has been completed and police have collected DNA samples as well.
CM Punjab Takes Notice
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar has taken notice of the incident and sought a report from RPO Faisalabad about Gojra Motorway gang-rape incident and directed that criminals be immediately arrested and stern legal action be taken against them.
The IG said that justice should be ensured for the victim on a priority basis.
The incident is a grim reminder of last year’s gang-rape case, when two men had sexually assaulted a woman on the motorway in the Gujjarpura area of Lahore.
