There will be a 4-day bank holiday observed in Lahore and seven other Punjab districts from 9 November 2023 to 12 November 2023 (Friday to Sunday) due to worsening smog situation in the province.
According to the details, a 4-day bank holiday will be observed in Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Narowal from November 9 to 12 (Friday to Sunday).
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued a circular for all banks to remain closed on 10 November 2023 (Friday) in above mentioned Punjab districts (Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Narowal).
Furthermore, the Federal Government has already announced a nation wide public holiday on 9 November 2023 for Allama Iqbal Day and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has also issued a separate notification in this regard.
Moreover, the banks will remain closed for 4 days in these eight Punjab districts when combined with the weekend (Saturday and Sunday), which is falling on November 11th and 12th, 2023.
The development comes after caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi talked with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmed about the serious situation related to smog and asked him to keep banks closed on Friday and Saturday.
The SBP Governor agreed to the interim chief minister’s proposal.
Additionally, a strict lock-down will be implemented for these four days and a notification has been issued by the concerned department. “Citizens are requested to stay home for three days.” Naqvi told media during a briefing in Lahore.
