ISLAMABAD: The Administration of Islamabad has instructed all private teaching hospitals in the city to operate 50 percent beds free providing accommodation and consultation to these patients.
According to the notification issued by the Islamabad Healthcare Regulatory Authority (IHRA), all private teaching hospitals need to comply with The Medical and Dental Institutions Regulations 2012 which states:
In each teaching hospital fifty percent of the beds shall operate free for accommodation and consultation, while treatment expenses including laboratory services, medicines and supplies, if any shall be charged on non profit basis.
However, as stated the hospitals though private teaching hospitals are required to operate 50 percent beds for free providing accommodation and consultation they are still allowed to charge for the treatment including laboratory services, medicines and supplies but only at cost and should not make a profit on these as well.
A team from IHRA will be inspecting all private teaching hospitals in Islamabad to make sure they are complying with the notification otherwise strict action is to be taken which may include the deregistration, sealing of premises, fine or even imprisonment.
