A powerful earthquake, measuring 7.6 magnitude on the Richter scale, has struck the Philippines, leading to the issuance of a tsunami warning. The seismic activity occurred late at night off the coast of Mindanao, leading authorities to urgently advise residents along the eastern coast to evacuate their homes.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued alerts, cautioning that tsunami waves could impact the southern Philippines as well as areas in Indonesia, Palau, and Malaysia. Reports from residents depicted a formidable and prolonged shaking within their homes.
The earthquake caused significant damage to building structures, and social media is currently buzzing with trending videos capturing the incident. One particular video highlights a mall in the Philippines during the earthquake, capturing the intense panic that swept through residents.

This seismic event follows a significant 7.2 magnitude earthquake in the region on November 17. Footage from that incident captured ceilings collapsing in large shopping centers as pillars swayed.
The Philippines is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions due to its location on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an area with numerous seismic faults encircling the ocean. The region experiences approximately 100-150 earthquakes annually, attributed to the interaction of tectonic plates at convergent boundaries known as subduction zones.
Mindanao, the second-largest island in the Philippines with a population of about 26 million people, bore the brunt of this recent earthquake. Davao City, the third-largest city in the country, situated on the coast of Mindanao, faced the impact of the seismic activity.
