Ashura, which falls on Muharram 9 and 10, is expected to be observed this year on July 16 and 17.
Ashura is a significant day for Muslims, especially for Shia communities, as it commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Every year, special preparations are made for this occasion. The government takes extra security measures to ensure the safety of mourners, processions, and gatherings known as Majalis.
The federal government has already declared July 16 and 17 as public holidays for Ashura in its list of holidays for this year.
