ISLAMABAD: Lt Gen (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa has stepped down from his role as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting after his request to relieve him from this additional portfolio was accepted by the premier.
“I requested the honourable prime minister to relinquish me from the additional portfolio of SAPM on Info & broadcasting. He very kindly approved my request,” Asim Bajwa stated on Twitter.
However, Asim Bajwa will continue to perform his duties as chairman of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Prime Minister Imran Khan has previously rejected the resignation submitted by Asim Saleem Bajwa following controversy regarding his assets abroad.
At the time, the premier said that he was satisfied with the explanation provided by Bajwa about his assists and personal finances as stated by the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Twitter account.
However, it is still not clear why the prime minister changed his mind and accepted the resignation request this time.
