At least four people have been killed and several injured in a blast near the Confucius Institute of University of Karachi on Tuesday. According to the details, blast occurred due a car explosion inside the premise of the Karachi University.
The initial reports stated that the blast took place in a white van near the Confucius Institute, Chinese language teaching centre at Karachi University. The authorities have arrived at the location and cordoned off the area while rescue operations are underway.
According to the police, there were seven to eight people in the van, but the exact number of casualties has yet to be reported. Furthermore, the blast was reportedly caused by a gas cylinder explosion, but it has not been confirmed by the police yet.
The video footage of the incident has been shared on the internet with a white in flames with plumes of smokes rising from it. The van appeared to be turning towards the Confucius Institute, located next to the commerce department, when the incident took place.
According to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) East Muqaddas Haider, the bomb disposal squad will determine the nature of the blast at Karachi University. However, he expressed that the explosion could have been a terrorist attack targeting Chinese nationals.
Meanwhile, Karachi Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that according to the initial investigation, a burqa-clad woman may be involved in the suicide blast. The police have obtained CCTV footage of the incident and it is being analyzed.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, has directed the Terrorism Department and SSP East to immediately reach the site of the incident and carry out a thorough investigation. He also directed the authorities and rescue teams to cater to the injured and shift them to Dow University Hospital.
The Chief Minister has also asked a detailed report of the blast at Karachi University from the city’s commissioner.
