The much-awaited Bhara Kahu Bypass, which was recently opened for the public, does not allow motorcycles aka bikes or rickshaws to use the newly constructed road for their daily commute.
The Bhara Kahu Bypass is a pet project of the PDM Government, which took almost 10 months to complete with a cost of Rs. 6.5 billion. However, the bypass seems to have been developed for use of the elites only.
The local authorities have posted Islamabad Traffic Police on both sides of the Bhara Kahu Bypass as motorcycles or bikes and rickshaws are not allowed to use the road for traveling and only cars are allowed to use it for their commute.
It is pertinent to mention that during the inauguration of the Bhara Kahu Bypass, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that it was a need of the hour for the people who have been suffering for years with traffic congestion on the existing Murree Road.
However, it is still unclear what people the Prime Minister was referring to as daily commuters on motorcycles or rickshaws are not allowed to use the Bhara Kahu Bypass despite the main purpose of the project was to make lives easier for daily travelers.
Meanwhile, the road beneath the Bhara Kahu Bypass, which is to be used by the bikes and rickshaws is in dire need of repairs and completely broken. To make matters worse, there is a water leaking from the Bypass, which has flooded the road below, which makes travel even more difficult for the daily commuters, who were the reason for the bypass construction.
