Bilquis Bano Edhi, the wife of renowned humanitarian and philanthropist, Abdul Sattar Edhi, has passed away at a hospital in Karachi at the age of 74 on Friday.
According to the details, Bilquis Edhi was admitted to a hospital in Karachi for three days after her blood pressure suddenly dropped. She had reportedly been suffering from multiple ailments, including congestive heart failure and lung issues, for some time.
The funeral prayers will be held tomorrow (Saturday) at New Memon Masjid on MA Jinnah Road.
Bilquis Edhi was a professional nurse and headed the Bilquis Edhi Foundation. She had spent more than six decades of her life working for humanity and helped save thousands of unwanted babies by placing cradles for them at Edhi Homes and Centers across the country.
She had been awarded several national and foreign awards during her lifetime, including the Hilal-I-Imtiaz, the Lenin Peace Prize, Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice (2015), and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service, which was received by her alongside her husband in 1986.
Bilquis Edhi was also declared the ‘Peron of the Decade’ along with UN rapporteur on Human Rights Prof Yanghee Lee and the US ethicist Stephen Soldz by an international organization.
