Capital Development Authority (CDA) is considering to modify the design of the protective U-turns on Srinagar Highway in Islamabad.
According to the details, CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younis visited the protective U-turns that were constructed earlier this year to make Srinagar Highway a signal-free corridor.
However, these protective U-turns have become the cause of major accidents on Srinagar Highway.
The CDA chief has directed the concerned officials to collect data of vehicles using these protective U-turns and work on a plan to construct elevated U-turns on the busy highway that connects traffic from Islamabad to motorway network and Islamabad International Airport.

Regarding Nishter Hospital incident ,I don’t know that who will be declared guilty for that but as the dead bodies were in the use of Nishter hospital and their administration is responsible for secure disposal as per law. This is not only the violation of domestic laws but the Internationals laws as mentioned in ICCPR.
It would appear the issue is not the U Turns, but people attempting to cros the 4 or 5 lanes to take the exits very close to the Turns, so, they wait, slow down coming out of the U turn merge lane, roght in the face of oncoming traffic. The solution maybe to close these exits which exist within l. Say 500 meters of U turns, make them one way by installing one way barriers in the road – any of these would be more effective and cheaper than elevated U turns being s7ggested… There is the cheapest option, making ppl follow the simple rule that going wrong way on a highway is illegal – pit massive penalties to impose the rule.
