The newly-elected Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has directed officials to expedite the completion of the Rawalpindi Ring Road, aiming for a deadline by the end of December.
During her visit to the project site for inspection, CM Punjab received updates from officials representing NESPAK and Frontier Works Organization (FWO). Notably, she was briefed on the progress, with 24% of the project already completed, while the remaining 76% is slated for completion by February 2025.
The project involves the construction of five interchanges, 11 overpasses, bridges spanning two rivers, six canals, and a railway bridge. Additionally, plans include the development of 15 subways, 53 small bridges, and a designated rest area along the route.
Highlighting the project’s significance in enhancing transportation efficiency, CM Maryam Nawaz underscored plans to establish industrial zones along the road, aiming to stimulate economic growth and job creation in Rawalpindi.
Furthermore, in a nod to community integration, the Chief Minister instructed officials to name the interchanges along the Rawalpindi Ring Road after their respective villages, emphasizing a sense of local identity and ownership.
Accompanied by key figures including former Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Members of the Punjab Assembly Marriyum Aurangzeb, Uzma Bukhari, Sania Ashiq, Chief Secretary, concerned secretaries, and the Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division, CM Punjab reiterated her commitment to seeing the project through to its timely completion.
