Rawalpindi, Pakistan: Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, visited the Rawalpindi Ring Road project site on Thursday and urged authorities to expedite construction with a target completion date of December 2024.
During the visit, officials from NESPAK and FWO, the project’s consultants and contractors, briefed the Chief Minister on the progress made so far. The project, which began in September 2023, aims for full completion by February 2025, with 24% of the 38.3-kilometer road already finished.
Clearance work along the route and the relocation of utility services are currently underway to facilitate faster construction. The project encompasses five interchanges, 11 overpasses, bridges over two rivers, six canals, and a railway line. Additionally, it will feature 15 subways, 53 small bridges, and a rest area.
Highlighting the project’s importance, Chief Minister Sharif emphasized its potential to improve transportation, promote industrial development, and create employment opportunities in the region. She directed the authorities to adhere to the revised two-year deadline and stressed the need for high-quality construction without delays.
In a unique touch, the Chief Minister also instructed that the interchanges on the Rawalpindi Ring Road be named after the respective villages they serve, further connecting the project to the local communities.
Joining the Chief Minister on the visit were former Senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Members of the Provincial Assembly, the Chief Secretary, concerned government officials, and representatives of the Rawalpindi Division.
