KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Murad Ali Shah, conducted a five-hour visit to various areas of Karachi, inaugurating infrastructure and energy projects worth nearly Rs 6 billion. The projects aim to improve recreational facilities, road infrastructure, and the energy sector in the city.
Accompanied by provincial ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Nasir Hussain Shah, Saeed Ghani, Haji Ali Hassan Zardari, and Waqar Mehdi, the chief minister opened two road projects, two solar energy projects, and a football ground in the Manzoor Colony constituency of MNA Asad Alam Niazi, Saeed Ghani, and Deputy Speaker Anthony Naveed.
During his visit, the chief minister inaugurated three major road projects in the West and Central districts, including the 1.6 km long Mirza Adam Road, completed at a cost of Rs 900 million, which connects Shershah to Mirza Adam Road and includes drainage systems for floodwater. Another key project was the 4 km long Café Pyala Road, constructed from Sakhi Hassan to Rashid Minhas Road at a cost of Rs 901.5 million, which will improve access to Cardio Hospital and Mamji Hospital. Additionally, the 6 km long Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan, along with a 4.35 km long service road, was opened, costing Rs 3.36 billion, easing traffic between North Nazimabad and North Karachi.
In a significant step towards renewable energy, Murad Ali Shah also inaugurated solar projects at Dow University Hospital’s Ojha Campus and Karachi Central Jail. The Ojha Campus solar system, with a capacity of 2.32 MW, is expected to save the provincial treasury significantly over 25 years. The Karachi Central Jail solar project, with a capacity of 614.8 KW, will generate surplus electricity to be sold to K-Electric. Both projects are expected to recover their costs within a few years and save millions annually.
The provincial government is committed to providing long-term infrastructure and renewable energy solutions for Karachi. Another notable project in Manzoor Colony saw the inauguration of Shaheen Football Ground and Park, costing Rs 213 million, providing modern facilities for residents.
Chief Minister Sindh also emphasized the government’s efforts to solarize 50 government buildings and provide 200,000 households with solar systems. He announced progress on the 400 MW solar energy project at Keenjhar Lake and highlighted the importance of Thar coal in producing the country’s cheapest electricity.
Murad Ali Shah praised Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his leadership in passing the 26th Constitutional Amendment and expressed confidence that Bilawal will soon be Pakistan’s Prime Minister.
