The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has named Mohsin Raza Naqvi as the caretaker Punjab Chief Minister (CM).
According to the details, the matter regarding the appointment of caretaker Punjab CM had reached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after parliamentary committee failed to reach a consensus.
The decision of the appointment of the caretaker Punjab CM was taken during a meeting chaired by the Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid (PML-Q) had suggested the name of Naveed Akram Cheema and Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera for the slot of caretaker Punjab Chief Minister (CM).
However, the opposition tabled the names of Mohsin Naqvi and Ahad Cheema.
In a notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), it stated, “Pursuant to the provision of Clause (3) of Article 224A of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and as a result of detailed deliberations made on 22nd January 2023.”
“The Election of Pakistan has unanimously decided to appoint Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi as Care-Taker Chief Minister, Punjab with immediate effect.” said the commission.
