The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will gather on Tuesday in Islamabad to look for the Shawwal moon, marking the end of Ramadan. Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad will chair the meeting at Kohsar Complex for the sighting of the Eid Chand. If the Shawwal moon is spotted, Eid ul Fitr will be on Wednesday (10 April 2024); otherwise, it will be on Thursday.
Similar meetings will be held by zonal and district committees on Tuesday after Asr prayer. Furthermore, the attendees of the meetings will include meteorology department officials, Space and Upper Atmosphere Reseach Commission (Suparco), and the Ministry of Science and Technology representatives.
Testimonies about the moon sighting will be heard, and Maulana Azad will announce the final result regarding the sighting of the Shawwal crescent in the country.
It is pertinent to mention that the government has declared holidays for Eid ul Fitr from April 10 to 12 (for five-day-week workers) or April 10 to 13 (for six-day-week workers). Meanwhile, the Met Office forecasts strong chances for Eid on April 10, with the moon expected to be visible on April 9 around sunset, aged 19–20 hours.
The crescent can be seen for over 50 minutes after sunset.
