COP28 promises crucial discussions and formal negotiations on climate change, emphasizing that the conference is inclusive, involving everyone in shaping the future of our planet. The COP28 Green Zone, hosting over 100 free and open-to-the-public events and workshops, features themed areas dedicated to Energy Transition, Technology and Innovation, and Youth.
At Al Forsan Park, the Expo City Farm showcases regenerative agriculture, cultivating more than 10 types of crops. Visitors gain firsthand experience in crop rotation for biodiversity improvement. Workshops on hydroponic food production and sustainable farming, combined with farm-to-table dining experiences, provide a non-technical understanding. The farm hosts community workshops and cooking classes by sustainability-minded chefs, focusing on avoiding food wastage.
Targeting a younger audience, the original musical “Alya in Terraland” uses hip-hop and R&B music to convey environmental awareness. Staged at Terra Auditorium on December 7, 11, and 12, the production challenges the audience to participate in climate action.
The Terra Pavilion invites visitors to take a Pledge for People and Planet, available in Arabic for the first time in COP history. From December 3, the Women’s Pavilion showcases stories about land and sea, advocating for a more just and sustainable future with women and girls at the forefront. Prince Hussain Aga Khan’s marine photography exhibition, “Fragile Beauty,” at the Sustainability Pavilion, celebrates ocean magic and the need for marine species protection.
The Terra Pavilion hosts free workshops, including the launch of the Trillion Bee Coalition, workshops on local honey production, vermiculture at the “Wonderful Worms of Terra,” upcycling workshops, pollinator home creation for bees, nature exploration through storytelling, and a kids’ potting and planting workshop. Additionally, the Women’s Pavilion features an exhibition on land and sea, encouraging participation in initiatives for a sustainable future. The Sustainability Pavilion houses the ‘Reflections on Climate Change’ exhibition, providing insight into COP history, goals, and actionable initiatives for visitors.
