The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has filed a case against 38 individuals, including well-known journalists and YouTubers, for allegedly spreading false information about a reported rape incident at a private college in Lahore.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered following a complaint by Sadia Yousuf, the principal of Punjab College for Women. She expressed concerns over what she called “dirty social media campaigns” that fueled protests. Some of the high-profile figures named in the FIR include prominent journalists such as Ayaz Amir, Imran Riaz Khan, Jameel Farooqui, and Sami Ibrahim. Political activists, like PTI supporter Tayyaba Raja, along with Naeem Bukhari, and social media influencers like Faisal Shahzad and Muqaddas Farooq Awan, were also mentioned.
An FIA official confirmed that three individuals — Raja Ahsan Naveed, Faisal Jutt, and Umar Daraz Gondal — had been arrested. Raids are underway to locate others who are currently in hiding. The agency is also working with social media platforms to take further action against the accounts involved in spreading the false story, the official added.
The case has sparked widespread attention due to the involvement of several public figures, and authorities are intensifying their efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
