ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Mahmood Shah Qureshi has dismissed statements made by former National Assembly speaker Ayaz Sadiq regarding his remarks about release of Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
FM Qureshi expressed his disappointment with the PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq and said that statement made by him was irresponsible and contrary to the truth.
PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq told media that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi “begged the opposition to release Abhinandan, otherwise, India would attack Pakistan”.
However, FM Qureshi has not only rejected these claims but said, “Highly irresponsible statements are being issued for political gains; responsible people are talking irresponsibly, which is surprising”.
Indian Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by Pakistan Airforce in February of 2019 when his MiG-21 aircraft was shot down on entering the airspace above Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJ&K).
Abhinandan was held for a 60-hour period before being released back to India as a peace gesture hoping that it might lead to improved relations between both nations.
