It seems that General Elections 2024 might get delayed after Iran violated Pakistan’s airspace and claimed of targeting the bases of a terrorist group, Jaish al-Adl (Army of Justice), located 400 kilometers inside our border in the Panjgur district of Balochistan.
According to veteran journalist Kamran Khan, the caretaker Federal Government may end up delaying the General Elections 2024 because of yesterday’s attack. “Gearing up to tackle the aftermath of yesterday’s Iranian military onslaught on Pakistani soil, the military is on high alert! This sudden, intense border escalation is set to compel the government to delay the February elections.” Kamran Khan wrote in a tweet.
He added, “There’s a mounting realization that, following yesterday’s unwarranted Iranian assault, the tens of thousands of troops necessary for securing the February 8 elections may no longer be available.” Furthermore, he added that Punjab Police has informed of a shortage of 92,000 personnel required to provide adequate security during the elections.
“Pakistan is already grappling with the worst wave of terror attacks in the last 10 years. Key political parties in KPK and Baluchistan provinces are already advocating for the postponement of elections due to security concerns!” Kamran Khan concluded.

However, the caretaker Government has not announced any plans to postpone the General Elections and everything seems to be on track to hold the polls on February 8, 2024. So far, the Government has expelled Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan and recalled its own envoy from Tehran. Furthermore, in a press release issued on Thursday, the Government has warned Iran of consequences on such a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, should an incident like this happen again.
