Downdetector is showing a significant rise in outages for companies such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Ancestry.com.
American Airlines, United, and Delta have requested a global ground stop from the FAA.
The FAA issued an alert early Friday, but it did not confirm a direct connection to the Microsoft outage.
The FAA has instructed air traffic controllers to inform pilots about current communication issues affecting airlines. While flights already in the air will continue their journeys, no new departures are allowed for American, United, or Delta.
